Sojourn

The Ephemeral Moment Between Night and Day.

The term "sojourn" refers to a temporary stay or brief period of residence.

The origin of the music is intimately connected to the cover photo, which I took at the Pousada Rural Vista Alegre in Bom Jardim da Serra. This is a place I hold dear, where I often wake up at dawn to engage in relaxation and meditation amidst the pines and fields. I captured this photo as the day was breaking on one side, while the night, represented by the moon, lingered on the other. This fleeting moment, where converging times dissolve and separate, brought a series of metaphors to mind, inspiring me to create this piece.

The composition consists of three distinct yet similar segments, differentiated by the manner in which I strike the piano keys. In this piece, I don't merely play the piano; I hammer it—at times with excessive sustain, at others with a dry touch, and occasionally with spaced intervals.

Through these variations, I aim to convey the transient beauty of that in-between moment, capturing the essence of a sojourn between night and day.
