Reiki

The album Reiki was born from an encounter—between the artist and a blind massage therapist—during a training in traditional Reiki at the very beginning of the 1990s, in its very first year.

During the course, it was common for participants to pair up and practice what they were learning. My partner was a professional massage therapist who was blind and worked at a local social club. Through our interactions, I discovered that his goal in learning Reiki was not to add another skill to his professional toolkit, but rather to use it for voluntary work, spreading healing energy to those in need of this technique, which transfers the fundamental life force energy known as Ki.

(Reiki is a Japanese healing technique based on the concept of channeling universal energy through the hands to promote balance and well-being. It is believed to enhance physical, emotional, and spiritual healing by restoring the natural flow of life energy within the body.)

During that immersive weekend, my partner explained that his greatest challenge in performing a Reiki session was the need to change hand positions every three minutes. He kept track of time using a watch without glass, checking it with his fingers. This meant he had to lift his hand off the recipient, breaking the continuous flow of energy. However, in Reiki practice, one is encouraged to maintain at least one hand on the body at all times while shifting positions.

I went home and to my music studio, wondering how I could help with this situation. That’s when an idea came to me—I had a Tibetan bell and decided to record its sound at precisely timed intervals matching the required position changes for both the front and back of the body during a Reiki session.

And so, the Reiki album was born. It consists of two tracks, each including the sound of the Tibetan bell every three minutes, marking the correct moments for position transitions throughout an entire Reiki session.

This is the only album of mine for which I have fully given away the rights, allowing anyone to use it freely. Over the years, it has transformed from cassette tapes to CDs, but its distribution has always been free—offered to those who needed music specifically tailored for their healing work.

Among all the albums I’ve created, this one might be the most utilitarian, and I hold it especially close to my heart. It channeled my creativity toward a greater collective good, while simultaneously allowing me to compose music and release its vibrations into the world.

To be an agent of vibrational transformation through music, to have this privilege granted to me by the universe—this is the core of my life’s purpose.

This album was one of the first ever released for Reiki practice, alongside the work of Master Plínio Kutaite.

Additionally, the author of this album is a Master of Traditional Usui Reiki, deeply committed to the practice and teachings of energy healing.
