Homecoming

Homecoming is an EP that continues my homage to the piano.

What fascinates me most about the piano is the sustain of its notes—the sound that lingers when the sustain pedal is pressed, allowing a note to multiply and resonate over time, merging with the others played. This creates a unique sound, a blend of vibrations slowly dissolving into the air. That is what truly captivates me about the piano!

Homecoming consists of three distinct pieces, with the final track featuring lyrics. The poetry in this song was something I wrote when I was 15 years old, in the early 1980s, during a trip to the countryside of Minas Gerais, Brazil, a place my family used to visit often.

At the time, I wrote this poem while reflecting on the feeling of familiarity—how that place felt like home, even though I was only beginning to understand what home truly meant. I questioned:

  • What is home?

  • What does it mean to return home?

  • Where is our true home?

How could I, at such a young age, already grasp the essence of home?

More than 40 years later, as I composed this album, I felt a deep need to include that innocent yet profound poem as the closing track, because it still carries so much of what I believe about belonging, familiarity, and the essence of home.

The lyrics of the song are provided below, so you can follow along and sing.

The song is beautifully performed by my dear friend Ominira, with whom I have a longstanding musical partnership, which you can explore further in another section of our website.

Through the streets of colored stones,

And the lakes of silver water,

I’m coming home, I’m coming home.

The whispers of the wind they’ve shown,

The path I’ve walked is longer.

So many years, traveling through other homes,

But now my feet are running here,

And all I can say,

I’m coming home, I’m coming home.

Under skies that never fade,

Through the dreams I never traded,

I’m coming home, I’m coming home.

The echoes of the life I’ve made,

They lead me where my heart stayed.

So many years, traveling through other homes,

But now my feet are running here,

And all I can say, I’m coming home,

I’m coming home.

Every road, every mile,

Led me to this smile.

Through the storms, through the pain,

Home’s where I remain.

Through the streets of colored stones,

And the lakes of silver water,

I’m finally home, I’m finally home.
